Introduction

Today, divorce has become an accepted, or sometimes even desired, by large proportion of the society as a solution of an unsuccessful married life. There are a great number of people who favor ending the marital bond over sustaining, completely ignoring the fact that, even if it is mutually agreed upon by both parties, divorce tears apart the fundamental social fabric. Sociologists belong to two opposite groups regarding their opinion on divorce. There are those who consider the act as an irreparable damage to one of most fundamental units of the society, with enduring effect on the subsequent life of children and adults, while others believe it to be an inevitable outcome of unsuccessful, unfulfilling and unhappy married life.

Those who have competing views on the issue of divorce, often argue and counter argue based on their finding based on the comparative analyses of the married life and life after divorce and its effects on the person, children of divorced parents and society in general. The present paper attempts to compare and contrast the effects of married life and life after divorce upon the divorcee and those who are associated with him or her especially children of the divorced parents (Emery, 1988).

“Married couple and their children lead a better life as compared with divorcees and their children.”

Discussion

In today's modern era of technological advancement, instant communication and satisfaction, divorce is no longer considered, by an increasing number of people, as a social taboo it once was some decades ago. Some decades ago, divorce was largely viewed with much more negative notion and normally considered as a social and domestic disaster with long lasting effects for adults and their children.
