Metabolism, Anabolism and Catabolism

Metabolism is a set of chemical reactions taking place within the cells of living organisms, which transforms power, retain their identity and reproduce. All forms of life from unicellular algae to mammals depend on the simultaneous performance of hundreds of metabolic reactions controlled with absolute precision, from birth to death maturation. The cells have a series of specific enzymes or catalysts that are responsible for activation, control and stop all these reactions, each of which in turn is coordinated with many others that occur throughout the body (Frobisher, 1962).
