Introduction: Mural Art

The mural is the first history of painting. Humanity began with the cave art of mural paintings in caves, first signs transmitted between people. Drawings, diagrams, images of beauty, horror, magic. The wall, the wall was the first medium of painting. The support of the mural is the stone, concrete, brick, plaster, architectural materials. The painter painted directly on the support or painted on canvas which is then pasted (pasted) on the walls. The fresco is a particular technique of mural painting. The color is applied to a fresh lime plaster (fresco in Italian). The term fresco is most often used by metonymy in ordinary language and refers to the mural in general and rarely technical (Austin, Joe, pp. 27-34).

Throughout the history of humankind, people have migrated from one place to another for many reasons. From ancient peoples crossing oceans in wooden or even reed boats to entrepreneurs traversing the globe on jet planes, migration is part of human existence. People have migrated to find food, safety, or shelter (Baca, Judy, pp. 33-41). They have migrated to flee enemies, to find work, or to practice their faith. Jody baca has portrayed the gender role of women through her art particularly in the Migration of the Golden People. This artwork highlights a strong connection between role of immigrant women, society, and reality behind the action (Bojorquez, Charles).

Migration of the Golden People is a 14ft x 32ft digital mural present at the Los Angeles's Central American Research and Education Center. This was developed by the Central American scholars and youth participants on the migration of the 1980's of Central Americans to Los Angeles. This mural was sponsored by the SPARC (Social and Public Art Resource Center) and City of Los Angeles. Jody Baca tried expressing the fact that migration is central to the general human pattern, essential for the functioning of families, and crucial to the operation of the labor market (Baca, Judy, pp. 33-41).

Historical events display greater concern to define the objectives and needs of action. Women have been a growing share of worldwide migration in recent decades. The processes of immigration and is laden with destitution for the majority of immigrants from non-English speaking countries or immigrant visible minorities, but in particular for immigrant women, who often come as dependent immigrants. Institutional, social and even cultural barriers render integration for immigrant women slow and difficult to achieve, or even unattainable (Bojorquez, Charles).

Latin America history shows a remarkable record of international migration. These immigrations had a significant demographic impact in history. Migration of the Golden People portrays the role displayed by women in the migration of 1980s era and hardships they faced with courage and enthusiasm. Basically, this mural aims at showing the viewers reality behind the scenes that remain un-displayed.
