Mobile Technology in Organization

Introduction

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant facts and figures related to the use of mobile technology in organization. A notable development in contemporary organizations is the usage of mobile communication devices, which not only facilitate grassroots mobilization and coordination but also, arguably, transform the social movements themselves. This development has resulted from the unprecedented diffusion of portable technologies such as the Palm Pilot, global positioning system, and especially the mobile phone. Communication technology plays an increasingly prominent role in our daily lives. According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, technology has become a central feature of American families' everyday lives, with 84% of households having at least one mobile phone and 77% of households having a computer. Traditionally, the television has been the most prominent communication technology in the home, with over 98% of American households owning a TV, but increasingly the Internet has been gaining prominence (Tsou, 2006, pp. 316-339).

With such technological pervasiveness in society, questions arise about the effects such communication technologies have in our lives. A technological deterministic viewpoint would suggest that such technologies have tremendous and direct effects on the society that adopts them. Technological determinism is a perspective that argues the primary agent of change in the world is technology. Technology dominates society. The cause-and-effect relationship is central to understanding technological determinism. This viewpoint positions technology as the ultimate cause that brings about various effects (Tsou, 2004, pp. 153-165). In the next section, we will examine the benefit of deploying mobile technology in organization.

Discussion & Analysis

Benefits of deploying mobile technology in Organization

There are several benefits of deploying mobile technology in organization. The implementation of such technology in organization ensures a significant reduction in costs, man hours, paper and time, especially in the logistics area tasks. The Mobile Technology reduces the time of sending, receiving, inventory, shipping and distribution of materials, and control almost 100% of the inventory, avoiding the errors inherent in fixed or manual systems. The result is clearly visible to users in the organization, receiving an agile, quality and excellence (Rafael, 2003, pp. 399-425).

The use of mobile technology in organization provides solutions and technology infrastructure to simplify the daily work of officials of a medical organization, providing added value to the service given to users. For instance, the use of Interface for data generation and collection: This interface generates the database used by the Inventory Control application for Pocket PC. It also allows selection of multiple warehouses / stores, as well as multiple types of products, enabling the inventory in a particular place. It also allows inventory all products or a particular type.
