Abstract

Carl Jung is one of pioneers in the field of depth psychology and in particular the foundations of modern depth psychology can be linked to the works of Carl Gustav Jung. His literary fellows are Alfred Adler and Sigmund Freud. Carl Jung is famous for writing on analytical psychology areas that pertain to meta-physics; Jung has strong association with Sigmund Freud as this book contains areas where Jung relates his work to the theories of Freud. When expressing his opinion on analytical psychology in this book, Jung has related analytical psychology to human dreams and performed dream analysis when a human is in unconscious state. Jung has always talked about religion and his literary articles express relationship of the science of psychology with religion; this book has also tried to interpret religion by substantiating arguments of analytical psychology with theories and philosophies of religion.

Introduction

The topics discussed by Carl Jung in the book “Modern Man in Search of a Soul” are related to the discipline of psychology and in particular modern depth psychology. Jung has performed analytical psychology by relating aspects of in depth psychological analysis with the conscious and unconscious states of human mind and body. These unconscious mental contents are closely linked to the individual life history and are fed from two different channels: conscious and unconscious channels of human mind and body.

In this paper the composer has tried to accomplish the understanding of assertions made by Carl Jung via various theories of modern depth psychology that enable a reader to embrace realities of meta-physical science pertaining to human body. The vague topics of dream and unconscious states of human mind and body are explored and the composer has tried to deduce conclusion from the relationship of conscious and unconscious states with religion that are presented by Carl Jung in this book. In making conclusions and deducing summaries of theories and concepts presented in this book opinions and literary pieces of work of various critics of Carl Jung and supporters were studied and considered during preparation of this assignment. The faith of Christianity and its teaching were brought forward knowledge when studying the theories of Carl Jung during reading of this book. The composer has tried to remain subjective by interpreting material pieces and concepts presented by Carl Jung; as this is vital in making meaningful overview of the topics discussed in this book. The assertions made by Carl Jung are compared with the writers of the same school of thought whose works are compatible with the literary works of Carl Jung like Alfred Adler and Sigmund Freud (Dr. Bob and his library: a major A.A. spiritual source, 1998).
