Mother Teresa was born on August 26th 1910. Her birth name is Agnes Goaxha Bojaxhiu. Middle name means rosebud in Albanian. She was born to a grocer who was politically active and was one of three children. Her parents were Nikolle and Drana and she was the youngest of three children. Agnes lived comfortably and prospered while living with her family. Her father owned several houses. Her father died when she was eight years old. At the age of twelve Agnes was convinced to commit her to a religious life. She left home at the age of 18 to join the sisters of Loreto as a missionary she never again saw her mother or sister. She lived to serve the poor the sick and the dying. Agnes did not like to talk about her family. She felt it was not important. “The important thing is to follow God's way, the way he leads us to do something beautiful for him”. (Dass, 1981) Although Agnes was born on August 26th 1910 she considered her true birthday to be August 27th 1910. The day she was baptized.
