Introduction

Like most of the words, "multiculturalism" must be understood both from a historical and conceptual perspective. Historically, the "multiculturalism" came into use the extensive public opinion in the West during the 1980s in the context of reforming the public school curriculum. Specifically, the argument was that the content of the lessons of history, literature, social studies, and other areas reflects what is called a "Eurocentric" bias. This paper discusses multiculturalism narrative.

Discussion

Few if any women or people of color, or individuals belonging to the realm of Western Europe, appeared prominently in the curricula of schools in the United States. This lack of material was also interpreted as an opinion of value that reinforces unhealthy ethnocentric and even racist attitudes. Observers noted that teaching and administrative staff in schools were also overwhelmingly white and / or male (white dominant education level, masculinity at the administrative level, reflecting the politics of gender and class, as well as race in the education system).

Finally, parallel questions were raised about racial / ethnic prejudice or cultural institutions such as parliaments, government agencies, corporations, religious groups, private clubs, etc.

Each of these in turn has developed its own response and policies relating to multiculturalism. Before discussing these two issues, which must fully understand what they mean.
