My Cultural Autobiography

To answer the question, what culture would you place yourself in is quite difficult for me to answer because it was raised with strong values of old countries like my grandparents were. I do not practice a particular religion and my parents either. My mother's father was born in Russia and his mother was born in Lithuania. The grandfather was Russian Orthodox and catholic. They grandmother met a labor camp in Germany in the Second World War. They were able to come to America as workers. The Grandparents were born in the United States but his parents were from Germany and Poland. I do not practice any particular religion and my parents either. My mother converted from Russian Orthodox to Catholicism in primary school and then enrolled me and my brother in a Catholic school at 5 years. They were more concerned about our education rather than religion. We went to church and participated in Catholic ceremonies, but today I am not a practicing Catholic and not my parents. I am the younger of two children. I have a brother who is a year older than me. I feel I'm the baby of the family and the child's father. My father comes from a family of 8 children, which is the second youngest. Most of my aunts and uncles from my father have 5.3 children so I have many cousins. My mother comes from a family of 3 brothers who have no children. The marriage is common in our culture, but for some reason my mother is the only sister who is married and has children.

As a child I remember my favorite holiday of Christmas. We celebrated Christmas Eve with my mom's face and Christmas Day with my father. Since they were the only children on Christmas Eve were spoiled. We would like to help my parents and then cook the family came. We want to eat meat, potatoes and vegetables. Generally, lamb or steak, mashed potatoes, vegetables and desert, I love me because I grew up in it. My father owned a meat distribution company in Chicago meat for every occasion and food we eat meat. I could never be a vegetarian because I just want good meat. It is part of the food chain. We have been eating meat since the beginning of time. I personally could not kill an animal because I love them too. Only in extreme circumstances as a means of survival. I attended St. John of the Cross Elementary School Western Springs IL. Most students were white. We had a few students who were Indians, African Americans and Filipinos. I remember in second grade I became best friends with my classmate alkaline Filipinos, we used to go home together after school and remembered the strong smell of food in the kitchen decorated differently in the house.
