Introduction

The NASW Code of Ethics is a regulatory framework that holds its role and relevance in the same vein. The NASW Code of Ethics addresses an expansive array of ethical concerns that pertain to the functioning of social workers and the stakeholders that they come into contact with - may that contact and/or the resulting implication of actions/decisions be direct or indirect (DuBois & Miley, 2010). This brief discussion will elaborate on the fundamentals of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics in order to assert the importance of the presence and implementation of an ethical regulatory framework.

Discussion

The NASW Code of Ethics is known widely for addressing social workers' conduct through four distinct sections. The first section is Preamble, and begins by putting down the foundations behind social work (DuBois & Miley, 2010). The sections defines the very essence of social work; thereby outlining the rationale that should be present in order for individuals to be expected if they are to engage in effective social work (DuBois, 2008). In doing so, the NASE Code of Ethics establishes the role of social work and the degree to which social workers' actions influence a society.

The NASW Code of Ethics then moves on to present the purpose of the code by clearly outlining the six critically important objectives - the pursuit of which led to the development of the NASW Code of Ethics (DuBois & Miley, 2010). These six purposes of the NASE Code of Ethics deal with the mission behind social work, the ethical principles that serve to guide social work practice and the consideration of conflicts in duties.
