“Turner, Nat”,( October 2, 1800 - November 11, 1831) was an American slave who directed a slave rebellion that produced in 55 killings, the biggest number of fatalities to happen in one uprising in the antebellum south United States. He accumulated supporters in Southampton County, Virginia. Turner's methodical slaughter of white citizens throughout the uprising makes his legacy controversial. At birth, Turner's white expert noted only his granted title, Nat, whereas he may have had a last title inside the enslaved community. Deeply devout from childhood, Turner was a natural preacher and owned some leverage amidst local slaves. Apparently believing himself divinely nominated to lead fellow slaves to flexibility, he contrived a revolt with a band of approximately 60 followers. After murdering the family of Turner's proprietor, the band ravaged the district, in two days murdering a total of 55 white people, mostly women and children.
