Introduction

Needs analysis form is a form that is enlisted with questions which is filled by an individual who intends to complete an objective that aids the authorities into determining the perceived value of the respondent and the kind of expectations that the respondent has at the completion of the course. Such form is usually asked to be filled up by students to determine where they stand in terms of competency level that is in terms of knowledge, skills, abilities, attitude, and the degree to which they need to improve. It is based on the existent competency levels of the respondent that the program that a student is intending to enroll in is molded. It identifies the attitude in terms of the willingness and the degree of enthusiasm to work for attaining the goal of the course.

Scenario

With respect to Leonard, he is a French man who does not have an English speaking background and he has recently joined a multinational company, which is based in the same city as he is, which is Zurich. Since Leonard is a French man, he does not know English fluently. English speaking skill is crucial for the job designation he has been hired for. In order to counter the problem his employer has facilitated him by sponsoring him for an English learning course. The course is a 4 week oriented intensive program, which has six hours of lessons per day.

Need Analysis Program

The need analysis program below has been designed to assess the competency level of Leonard. It is mandatory to have the need analysis form filled by him to understand the current skill level that he has along with his expectations regarding the course that he is to take for the next four weeks. Considering the fact that it is intensive by nature, it becomes even more crucial for me as an English teacher to identify his strengths and weaknesses so that the course is molded in such a way that his weaknesses become his strength.

This need analysis form first extracts information in relation to the educational background of Leonard. It has questions that are in relation to the study of other languages besides his mother tongue French and English. Furthermore, there are questions linked to the type of English learning courses that Leonard must have come across during the process of his formal education in the primary schooling years. This can determine whether he possesses basic skills of English since basic skills is what is taught in the early schooling years.

The questions later in the need analysis form try to assess any courses that Leonard has taken intentionally to learn the language. This will communicate the skill level that Leonard should possess along with the urge Leonard has to learn the language. The questions then move on to analyzing the initiator of the English Learning Programme.
