Like intentional torts, negligence involves an act that wrongfully violates a protected right in one's property or person. However, contrary to intentional wrongs, negligence describes unintentional tortious acts that violate one's duty to exercise ordinary care under the circumstances (also referred to as due care or reasonable care). The degree of care required varies in relation to a reasonable person under the circumstances.
