Introduction

The study is related to the Wal-Mart where it is observed that the management of the company was having problems regarding the conflict between the employees and the management of the Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart Stores operates retail stores in a range of formats. Wal-Mart's operations comprise three business segments: Wal-Mart U.S., which operates retail stores in different formats in the U.S. under the Wal-Mart or Wal-Mart brand, as well as Wal-Mart's online retail operations, Wal-Mart.com; International, which consists of retail operations in 14 countries, and comprises of retail stores and restaurants including discount stores, supercenters and Sam's Clubs; and Sam's Club, which consists of membership warehouse clubs in the U.S. and the segment's online retail operations, samsclub.com. As of Jan 31 2011, Co. had a total of 4,413 domestic stores and 4,557 international stores.

For the management of the Wal-Mart, it was important and essential that the company should resolve the conflicts between the management and the employees. In addition to this, the employees were more concerned about the raise in the salary and the bonuses that have been allocated by the company end of year. However, the management of the company has decided that as due to recession, the company was not doing the business as compared to the past; in addition to this, the rise of inflation is also causing problems for the business. This is the reason why the company is cutting or minimizing the bonus amount of the employees. Furthermore, the company is also considering the strategy of downsizing as the company is aiming to have the cost cutting strategy, which is done by firing the employees who are not performing up to their bench mark. Therefore, among the employees a situation of uncertainty is present which is causing the conflict between the employees and the management of the organization.

Negotiation

Conflicts in the company, generally perceived as a negative element for the dire consequences that can generate within the same, such as conflict between the employees and the management of the organization due to the rotation of personnel, inefficiency and low productivity.

Therefore, for the Wal-Mart, it is important and essential the company should use and follow the negotiation strategy which should be based up on the communication with the employees with the management of the organization.
