Introduction

When a neurologic disorder is suspected, doctors who are dealing the case usually evaluate all the body systems during physical examination of the patient, but they focus mostly on the nervous system. They do a neurological exam, including mental status, cranial nerves, motor and sensory nerves, reflexes, coordination, balance, gait (walking), regulation of internal body processes (by the system the autonomic nervous), and blood flow to the brain. Doctors can evaluate some areas more heavily than others, depending on what kind of condition you suspect (Lin, 2007).
