Michiavelli was actually thrown out of his service when he had worked for about 14 years with great patriotism, this was somehow the biggest blow to him and somehow he could not manage to deal with it. It must be understood, Machiavelli avers, that a prince cannot observe all of those virtues for which men are reputed good, because it is often necessary to act against mercy, against faith, against humanity, against frankness, against religion, in order to preserve the state. With just a little imagination, readers can discern parallels between a 16th-century principality and a 20th-century presidency. There is much of a difference now between how the rulers used to be and how they are now. The difference can be felt easily between the ruthless ruling of the 16th century and the generosity of the 20th century.
