NGO stands for Non Governmental Organization. These are social institutions and humanitarian initiative, which are independent of government and have no desire to profit. An NGO may have various legal forms: association, foundation , cooperative, etc.. The important thing is to never seek economic gains, but are civil society entities that rely on voluntary and intended to improve some aspect of society. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the work of the voluntary organization SAVE THE CHILDREN. The paper discusses the different social problems addressed by this organization and the ways through which they are tackling the social problems. The paper also discusses the different resources used by this NGO for the purpose of solving the above mentioned problems.
NGOs are funded through the collaboration of citizens, state contributions and income generation itself (by selling T-shirts or organizing events, for example). Part of its resources can be devoted to hiring full-time employees (ie, they do not work on a voluntary basis but is devoted exclusively to the work of the organization). The scope of an NGO can be local, national or international. Health care, environmental protection, promotion of economic development, the promotion of education and technology transfer are just some of the matters pertaining to these organizations. Essentially arise NGOs in developed countries, where there is a greater number of people involved in student movements, trade unions and political parties. Young and old spend part of their leisure time and energy to learn from people with whom they work, while they gain experience. On the other hand, in less developed countries such as Africa, Asia and Latin America, numerous groups have emerged and smaller institutions, popular movements seeking an improved quality of life in their environment (Hudson, 2001).
An NGO is a public entity, with different purposes and humanitarian and social objectives defined by its members, created independently of local, regional and national as well as international organizations. It legally adopts different status, such as association, foundation, corporation, cooperative, inter alia. The whole sector comprising NGOs is called in different ways, such as civil society organizations, voluntary sector, nonprofit sector solidarity sector, social economy, third sector and social sector. Its membership is comprised of volunteers and contract workers. Internally may have a low or high degree of organization (Charnovitz, 2005). The financing of activities, usually comes from several sources: individuals, states and other public authorities, international organizations, businesses, other NGOs, etc.
