Introduction

Individuals who became nurses are expected not only to adhere to the ideals and moral norms of the profession, but also to embrace them as a part of what it means to be a nurse. The code of Ethics is an integral factor; that should be followed by nurses all around the world. As individuals, who are dedicated to this profession, are not only expected to follow the rules, ideas, and the moral norms related to the profession, along with that they should also know how to embrace them. American Nurses Association has developed a code of ethics for the people related to this profession in America.

Discussion

Following are the provisions respectively for code of ethics, which nurses have to follow.

Provision 1

A nurse should always treat her patients with compassion, no matter what the cast, color, creed and profession of the patient. It is the job of every nurse that she treats the patient in a professional manner, according to their rights.

A nurse always respects the right of dignity of all human beings, irrespective of the disease or illness the patient had. A disease or disability does not decrease the worth of a person in any way. 

A nurse should respect the right of self determination of her patients. Patient's have the moral and the legal rights to have information regarding their treatment, to what treatment is going to be provided to the patient, what are its consequences, what are the alternatives.

The principal of respect that all nurse had to follow is not only limited to the patients, it includes her colleagues, patients relatives almost everyone with whom she comes in contact with, it is the job of a nurse to treat everyone with compassion.

Provision 2

The primary concern of the nurse is the patient; no matter the patient is her relative, friend or part of her community. It is the job of the nurse to respect the uniqueness of the person, a nurse should provide the patient with ample opportunity to participate in the health care plan made for him, if there is some concern regarding the health care plan in the mind of the patient, it is the job of the nurse to clear any doubts present in the mind of the patient.

Nurses come across such situations in which there is a confliction between, patients, their families, hospital staff, doctors or the health care department. Now, it is the job the nurse to resolve these issues, to ensure the safety of the patients, along with that guarding the interest of the patient.

It is off fundamental importance for every nurse to maintain the intra-professional collaboration, to satisfy the health needs of the patients along with the public. Even those nurses who are not in hospitals looking after patients, but are in the profession of teaching, they also are responsible for the results concerning nurse care.
