Discussion

The role of a student nurse is very important in assessing the willingness and ability of oneself to do justice with the demanding career if nursing. Nursing is a profession where one needs to be highly efficient and effective in performing his duties. It is also said that physicians, doctors and overall health care system is based on the effort of nursing practitioners. They are the important pillar of health care system and one of the most important factors in promoting the system to a higher level (Jones & Bourgeois, 2010, p.54). The significance of this profession indicates that the student nurses shall be assessed strictly in accordance of the criteria so they shall perform their best in future. However, it is seen that learners do not comply with the standard but still they are moved forward with passing grade. Such students do not demonstrate sufficient competence in the test yet they are permitted to pass the clinical assessments.

Importance of Evidence Based practice

Evidence-based practice has gained momentum in nursing, and definitions vary widely. Research findings, knowledge from basic science, clinical knowledge, and expert opinion are all considered evidence; however, practices based on research findings are more likely to result in the desired patient outcomes across various settings and geographic locations. Evidence-based practice demands changes in education of students, more practice-relevant research, and closer working relationships between clinicians and researchers. It is important because it provides practical clinical guidelines that are proven to produce positive patient outcomes. And, the majority patient care organizations are required to adhere to these best practices in nursing to meet today s stringent industry practice standards (Straus 2005 Pp. 125-145).
