Obama's American Jobs Act

Thesis Statement

Congress should pass President Obama's American Jobs Act, because it is a vital, workable plan which could reduce the gap between rich and poor, create job opportunities and stimulate the economy.

The Paper

It is widely acknowledged that the economic crises and the global recession weren't created overnight and cannot be resolve easily. The middle class was constantly under a huge economic threat for decades. So a bill was proposed by President Obama to go beyond from just overcoming this deep recession. This paper will discuss the main points of this act and will justify how this proposal is a workable plan to create job opportunities and reduce the gap between rich and poor. The later part of the paper will discuss the contradiction by the people to my hypothesis.

President Obama intends to solve the problem in such a way that it creates a balance between poor and rich and everyone gets equally thrive from Wall Street to Main Street. The main concept behind the bill is to encourage the small investors to set up their businesses and bring new innovative ideas in the market. This can be done by investing more and more in educating the middleclass and making things that can be sold in international markets. Obama believes that role of entrepreneur is very important in the society. Due to global recession and detrimental economic situation of the country, a number of small businesses are forced to close down. Not only the small firms but the giant companies also faced the same financial issue that compelled them to downsize and a number of American jobs outsourced in the rest of the world, hence further devastated the economic conditions of American middle class. The president understands that this outsourcing of jobs will have grave consequences in the recent future, so he televised a legislation package by the name of 'American Jobs Act' on September 8, 2011 and sent to congress on September 12, 2011. (National Review, p.1)

A contradictory view point, however, is that country is not in a situation to afford such bills and spending like this will further detriment country's economic situation. The issue that analysts raised with the bill is that it's not based to active intelligent spending rather it emphasizes on tax cuts which is not a solution to this grave problem. To finance the plan, it suggests raising taxes of rich Americans which is a completely unviable proposal. Obama's government didn't take it into consideration that raising this taxation will have detrimental economic consequences as extracting finance directly from private economy cannot offset the already created imbalance in the economy. There are a number of politicians who oppose this proposal that is discussed in the later part of the paper.

In describing The American Jobs Act, the White House writes, "To create jobs, the President unveiled the American Jobs Act - nearly all of which is made up of ideas that have been supported by both Democrats and Republicans, and that Congress should ...
