Operational Challenges and Strategies

Introduction

Many people tend to confuse the strategy with the operational strategy; however, there tends to be a mark difference between the two. Strategy allows the organization to set the long term goals which tends to rest on planning. Moreover, strategy allows the organizations to deal with the entire issue which tends to hamper their growth instead of fixing the problems which tend to rise again after short intervals. Precisely strategy allows the organization to set the long term goal and identifies the path to meet those goals. Whereas, operational strategy refers to the development of policies and plans for the use of company resources to support the competitiveness of the firm over time.

The word "strategy" always implies a long-term process that seeks to promote the implementation of changes necessary for better fit and firm response to the changing requirements of the context, i.e. the achievement of objectives of a permanent nature in the midst of changing business scenario. In industrial enterprises, the "operations" referred primarily to manufacturing and other activities which are directly related to each other. The operations strategy coordinates operational goals with the goals of the organization as a whole, to a wider scale. These overall goals of the firm changes over time, so that operations strategy should be designed in order to anticipate future needs. In that sense, the operational capabilities of a firm should be viewed as a portfolio of resources to suit the changing needs of product and / or customer service.

The fact needs to be kept in mind that operational strategy allows the organization to identify the key issues in terms of the operations of the organization or dealing with any specific problem which the company tends to face. However, the identified issues allow the organization to allocate the resources appropriately and in a way which will increase the productivity or profitability of the company. Operational Strategy not only allows the productivity to be increased, but it also allows the organization to widen the scale of profit maximization1. Different experts tend to have a different definitions attached to the Operational Strategy Although the ascriptions attached to Operational Strategy tends to remain the same irrespective of the definitions.

Those ascriptions tend to stand the ground of identifying and evaluating the data in relation to the strategy and its appropriate formation. It also caters to the varying internal and external factor which needs to be analyzed and thus acts as ascriptions; however, there are different analytical factors which tend to serve the purpose.
