Introduction

Operations Management is the management of that part of an organization that is responsible for producing goods and/or services. There are examples of these goods and services all around you. Every book you read, every video you watch, every e-mail you send, every telephone conversation you have, and every medical treatment you receive involves the operations function of one or more organizations.

Operations management is the process of operational planning, organizing, implementing and controlling. From another perspective, operations management can be defined as the production and delivery of company products and services, system design, operation, evaluation and improvement.

Operational management's all activities are related to the deliberate transformation of materials, information or customers. Operating function includes activities that result in manufactured goods and services supplied by the organization to the external environment. Organization may vary greatly in nature operating functions. For example, in industrial raw materials are processed, and the first from the raw produce individual parts and components, then assemble them into finished products.

The scope of modern operational management is growing. Operating range of modern manufacturing enterprises is expanding from the traditional to the non-manufacturing sector.
