Problem: Lack of leadership and increase in employee dissatisfaction

The team has split up into groups and the supervisor now needs to improve his leadership approach. This problem can be addressed by using Bolman and Deal's four-frame structure. Fred stated that he is having a difficult time getting reliable parts from the supply department so he repairs the parts himself. This problem has contributed in the loss of production.

The supply department is not working efficiently in producing reliable parts and these parts do not comply with the specifications properly. Instead of wasting time for waiting four hours, Fred prefers to repair the parts. This is an important issue as it consumes Fred's time and energy and slows down the work which again affects the efficiency of the production. In my opinion, this problem should be addressed by communicating with supply department and identifying why this problem is occurring.

First, members of the team need to realize that each person has its own responsibilities and the supervisor is supposed to create an environment which conveys that all of them are working towards the same goal. I will try to build up good relationship by taking them on a picnic or resolving their conflict by taking them on a lunch. This will help in building up the trust and enhancing the communication.

Thirdly, I will try to take general interest in the work of my team members. I will try to keep communicating with them on frequent basis in order to keep things in flow.

Lastly, it is required to maintain a constant encouragement environment. As a supervisor, it is my duty to ensure that the team members are accomplishing the tasks given to them.

Leader needs to have the ability to influence his or her subordinate by leading an example. To become a good leader for the assembly line, I need to influence my co-workers through my behaviors by showing dedication, enthusiasm, completing my work on time, providing concentration and maintaining discipline.
