Social learning and social networks continue to grow in prominence in corporations, organizations, and universities. The impact of networks, however, remains somewhat misunderstood. How should organizations “restructure” on network principles? How can ROI be calculated? Are networks a superior method of organization learning and development? How can professionals recreate wholeness of understanding in fragmentary conversations and information shared through social networks? What lessons can learning professionals apply from Facebook, Twitter, iPhone applications, and other software and technology trends?

Over the last few years, online social networking learning organization has become a global phenomena. This paper describes two social networks—Facebook and LinkedIn—outlining their value delivery process. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, most of the communication was through email, instant messaging and cell phones. Nowadays, most college students are using a host of communication technologies such as blogs, video and photo messages, and other technologies to discover new friends and to keep in touch with them (Bergmann Gruyter 2003). A social networking learning organization combines all these and newer communication technologies, and provides an opportunity to contribute one's opinions, interests and skills to the largest creative work ever built by mankind: the Internet (Manchester 2006).

The core value proposition of any social networking learning organization is connecting and communication with people (Callaghan 2002). Using new technologies, this learning organization have made possible new ways of meeting people, checking on loved ones, spreading ideas, all from the comfort of one's home or work computer. Initially, social networking learning organization was a teenage phenomenon. Now, it is a part of all segments of the society. There are social networking learning organization for people varying from eightyearolds to doctors and lawyers, to the aged.

Similarly, (Manchester 2006) analyses the importance of document management as a core to the total knowledge management by identifying information captured within the system and making it available for reuse as knowledge. He further identifies three core primary principles that convert information into knowledge for the organization; “capturing information, structuring content, storing and distributing the structured content.”

(Callaghan 2002) describe the future of the Intranet design and knowledge managements need to “strive further for the right balance between rigid usability standards and format controls and flexible creativity.” They further highlight the importance of managing the growing volumes of content and managing the lifecycle of documents within the organization.

An Intranet can be an invaluable knowledge management tool if the organization is willing to adapt to the changes this technology will inevitably introduce.
