There are two basic provisions recognized by OSHA employers. General Duty; an act that requires an employer to have a "general duty" in place to provide safe and healthy working conditions, to include areas where OSHA standards have not yet been set. (Alexander, Hartman 2003) Employers who know or should know of unsafe or unhealthy conditions can be cited for violating the general duty clause.
