Osmosis Potato Chip Experiment (Cell Respiration)

Osmosis Potato Chip Experiment (Cell Respiration)

Osmosis is the passage of water molecules, which have moved from a high concentration to where there is a low concentration through a semi - permeable membrane (Borg, 2003, 39).Aim

We have been inquired to investigate the effect of osmosis on potato chips, and therefore the effect of osmosis in vegetation cells. My major aim is to work out whether osmosis happens in a potato and how it sways the potato in different molar answers of sucrose and distilled water. Iwill be experimenting with a potato, and will be utilising a variety of different concentrations of sucrose, and distilled water. By measuring the change in mass and extent of the potato cylinders I should also be adept to find the isotonic point. An isotonic issue is an issue where the mass does not boost or decrease from its initial mass. I should also experiment with at smallest 5 kinds of concentrations, to have adequate outcomes, and to glimpse if my prediction is correct I am going to use.

Partially permeable sugar substances pass

Membrane through pores more slowly

Fewer water molecules more water molecules

High engrossment of free water molecules

Low concentration of free water molecules go in this direction going in this direction

Hydrated sugar molecule.

Variables

We could:

Look at the type of temperature.

Compare a potato with a parsnip for example.

See if the potato alterations with distinct solutions

I have actually chosen to enquire distinct molar concentrations of sucrose - by assessing the mass and extent of the cylinders.

Fair test

To conceive an equitable check certain aspects of the experiment have to be kept the same whilst one key variable is changed. I have chosen to vary the engrossment of the sugar solution. This will give me a varied set of results from ...
