Abstract

This paper has explored and identified three main themes explained in the book Discipleship counseling written by Dr. Neil. T. Anderson. There is lack of consensuses on integration is theological teaching and secular psychological science in the Christian counseling field. The author has divided the book in three portions, initially in first portion he is saying that Christians are getting hurt because they are unaware of their purpose and place in Christ. In the second portion the author has addressed organizational structure of Discipleship counseling that should be met, and finally in last portion he has mentioned some obstacles to overcome in restoring the counselee back to God.

Introduction

Variety in the opinion among Christian community is created by psychotherapy and psychology. Psychology studies the soul; it is believe of many people that truth is only determined by only one source (BIBLE). In this paper, we are going to analyze Discipleship counseling written by Dr. Neil T. Anderson. Disciplinship counseling is complete direction for people to walk in freedom and grow in Christ. Church leaders, counselors, lay leaders and for every person who need direction on biblical counseling this book is helpful in giving step by step direction for life. Readers of this book gain better understanding on how to create counseling ministry in their own church and they this book works for leaders of the church effectively. The author has given ways to overcome certain issues like bitterness, ancestral sin, deception, false guidance, pride, and habitual.

Discussion

Discipleship counseling is a significant subject for church as well as for secular world of medicine, sociology, and psychology. The author of the book says that science has help human being in understating alleviate some suffering, natural law, and has also improved living standard of humans. On the other hand this is also true that science has failed in giving sufficient information regarding faith matters (William, 1990). This book is explaining three most important ideas; Jesus Christ's followers are specifically getting hurting because they are not aware about their purpose and space in Christ. They do not even know that there are obstacles to overcome in reinstating relationship of the counselee back to god and there is an organizational structure to discipleship counseling that should be met. Discipleship counseling is a balanced and fair book that looks at Christians based on counseling. Views of Dr. Anderson and Christian counseling have their quibblers. Theory is Discipleship counseling us discussing the biblical balance of Christian counseling and modern psychology. In the first part of the book author has discussed topics like the inadequacy of scientific rationalism, the ways of balance between biblical reality and naturalism, and inclusion of spiritual realm in counseling (Jay, 2003).
