Introduction

This thesis is about a topic that researchers have yet to obtain a definitive answer upon; Nature versus Nurture. I have named my piece of work “Parents Are The Wellspring From Which Their Children Flow”; this is because I do believe that we as parents are responsible for how we influence our children. As a mother of three and stepmother to three children I have plenty of experience with child behaviors. I am not basing my hypothesis on this strength alone. I will review many papers, journals and researches carried out to try to gain a consensus upon this on-going debate, which is that we are responsible for our children's behaviors, emotions, thoughts, feelings and actions.

You may wish to question me upon this statement; perhaps you may even consider it flippant. However if you are prepared to read on to see what I have to say you may be persuaded to agree with my beliefs.

Psychiatrists may have to change their diagnostic systems, pharmacists their medications and above all parents would have to take responsibility for their parenting skills and the actions of their children. It is for this reason that I Endeavour to present to you some facts about the importance of nurturing your child.

I will structure this essay into three chapters that will include summary charts and diagrams to help explain what it is that I am trying to implant in your mind. Following this I will conclude from the previous information where I stand on the matter.

In Chapter One I have researched and presented some facts upon parenting and what being a good parent involves. It looks at different styles of parenting. Perhaps you may find yourself in here somewhere? I will go on to write about human development, the physical, cognitive and socioemotional processes. Included here are a brief diagrammed and a summary chart to explain what psychosocial stages are and the outcome of the same.

This will lead us into chapter two, which is particularly based upon the notion of how the environment shapes our ...
