Introduction

Communication is the exchange of information between two or more people. Communication can be positive, negative, effective or ineffective.

When parents communicate effectively with their children, show them respect. Children begin to feel that their parents listen and understand which increases their self-esteem.

If parents communicate well with children, is more likely that their children are more willing to do what you asked, because these kids know what their parents expect from them, and is more likely to be kept. Furthermore, these children are more apt to feel secure in their position in the family, and may be more cooperative.

If, however, communication between parents and children is ineffective or negative, can make children think, first of all, they are not important, that no one listens and no one understands, and secondly also thinks that their parents are not helpful and do not generate confidence.

Keep conversations brief. The goal is for parents to pass information to their children slowly and make sure children are aware and understand what they are told. Ask questions indicated. Some questions help keep the course of a conversation, while others may stop short. Parents should try to answer simple questions in their conversations with their children. These questions often require detailed answers that will keep the conversation interesting. Open questions begin with the words "what," when, "who", or "as" are often very helpful for children to feel comfortable. Parents should avoid questions that require only yes or no answers. For communication to be effective there must be two sides.
