Personal Code of Ethics

Introduction

The concept of behaving in an ethical manner is underlying in the heart and soul of every occupation, which is present on earth. There have a number of frameworks that define proper code of conduct and ethics in the workplace, and set off principles and values that are leading the way employees and employers (John 1991). A properly developed and established code of conduct and ethics can never ensure that employees would behave in an ethical way. Ethical behavior is derived from the commitment of an individual to employ him in ethical and legal practice. The spirit and the guiding principles of a document of Code of Ethics helps an employee to develop practices that are in conformity with ethical values (Fraedrich and Ferrell 2009). I would like to join the profession of social work; therefore, I would discuss code of ethics concerning social work.

Central principles and values of social work

I would maintain the following values in my work, to make sure that my work is in conformity with the highest ethical standards:



First value: Respect every person keeping in view, his underlying dignity, and giving worth to every person

Second value: Always strive for social justice

Third value: Always strive to serve humanityFourth value: Maintain reliability and veracity of professionalism in my work

Fifth value: Ensure discretion in my work

Sixth value: Make sure we always maintain the highest level of competence in my work

These were values, which have set, forth for myself, following these vales would ensure that I always maintain high-quality work. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss each of my ethical value in detail and would discuss principles, which would help me in applying these social values in my live (Australian Psychological Society 2007).

Value 1: Respect every person keeping in view, his underlying dignity, and giving worth to every person

The concept of social work was founded on a hoary committal to giving respect to implicit integrity and dignity of every person and respecting the individual worth of every person. Whenever, the law would require a social worker to overturn a wish of the client, then, we as a social worker should make sure that we use the power of coercion to a minimal level. A social worker has to identify and acknowledge the diversity of a society and has to take into consideration the comprehensiveness of divergences, which are there in between people with different backgrounds. A social worker has to maintain rights of an individual and a group, as conveyed explicitly in the United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights, which was passed in the year 1948 (Hepworth, Rooney, and Rooney 2009).

Guiding principles:

We should give respect to the unparalleled value and implicit self-respect of every individual and make efforts to preserve rights of human beings at every level.
