Personal Finance Education

We are taught the basic principles of finance earlier on in our lives and if we are lucky, that education is taken further through our academic course throughout life. However, there are some aspects of education itself that ignore the world of finance and money management, as these fields deem knowledge about finance unimportant and non-relative to their major fields. In accordance with recent times and the influence and emphasis of financial management in our lives in general, certain groups and organizations have taken it upon themselves to advocate the addition of personal financial education into high schools and colleges, done through short courses that last a few months at a time and are refreshed on a regular basis. I believe this is a positive step towards guiding an individual to be a well-managed professional. The decision making process that allows an individual to make the transgression from a young adult into an independent adult requires that proper handling of money be inbred into children, so as not to make any huge money-related mistakes earlier on in their careers. Statistics from the Council of Economic Education show that the number of high school graduates who have passed an economics course has increased from 17 to 21, in the course of three years. This is great news for the overall condition of students entering the professional world, but these stats only show 19 states, which means that the rest do not require a student to take on a mandatory economics course. The news not only shows the ignorance of other states as far as financial education is concerned, but leave their young professionals wide open to come across personal finance decisions without having the proper know-how.
