Personal Statement

Very often it takes a small event to change our lives forever. Such an event took place in my life when I felt a joy permanently making its home in my heart. This joy is none other than teaching.

If I go back to the days when I felt this joy for the first time it is impossible to stop the smile spreading on my face. I used to, and very fondly if I might add, tutor my younger brother and neighbours' children. They were naturally curious, a curiosity that we often seem to lose as we grow older. Helping them learn and grow gave me immense joy - an irreplaceable joy and sense of purpose which led me to my current career choice.

Because I have Polish origins, the education system in England was as alien to me as the language itself. Undertaking a rigorous A level curriculum with fifteen A level courses, including History, Civics and Astronomy to name a few, and working towards the goal that someday I will be able to pass on this knowledge to someone else - with this single goal I pushed forward constantly. My hard work paid off in the form of good A level grades, and I proceeded to further my dream at the University of Central Lancashire.

At Lancashire, I undertook photography, enjoying the feeling of capturing a smile and permanently locking it away in the vault of memory. I pursued fashion photography since I've always been interested in fashion. However, my camera clicks are not just about that, and I captured many happy memories within its reel.

With my degree almost finished, I look forward to applying for PGCE. The opportunity is rare, being selective, and while I understand that my chances are slim I cannot find it in my heart to worry about the possibility of failure. I have always worked with the single goal of becoming a teacher, so I must keep trying, unhindered by fear of failure. To move forward and work hard without fail, these are the values I wish to instill in young individuals when I become a primary school teacher.

Volunteering at the Harris Museum changed my perspective on children. Each child is a child in himself, a separate entity that has needs, wants and dreams - all of which require attention separately.
