Personal Statement: Educational and Career Goals

My Short-Terms Goals

Management Studies

Although I have a background of biochemistry, but as I'm approaching professional education, I am getting inclined towards business management education. Business management is a very wide field, and it will give me an opportunity to learn about different functions of business and how to become successful businessmen. Business studies would allow me study a wide range of courses, from basic management to critical course of financial management.

Practice as Project Manager

My area of interest is project management. The course of project management is very interesting and provides to learn about everything one needs to know about managing a project. However, I wish to become a project analyst, which I think is sub field within project management. By becoming project analyst, I will be able to apply my analytical skills in evaluating new projects (Stewart 2009, pp.1).

Becoming Project Manager

Once I become project analyst, I would then like get promoted as a project manager. This is my short-term three year goal. I do realize the fact that becoming a project manager is not that easy, as the field is quite competitive and difficult. However, since I have a lot of interest in the field, I think I can achieve better in this field than any other field.

Study MBA

Once I have done my graduation, also got some experience as a project analyst, I would like to do Masters in business management. I believe that today's job market is very competitive; hence completing masters in one's field is must. Secondly, masters level learning would provide me even greater understanding of managing business.

Challenges in Achieving Career Goals

Lack of Experience

As I said earlier, that field of project management is not that easy. The field is very analytical and challenging. My first weakness is my inexperience. My second weakness is that I do not have business education background. Now a days, it is very hard to get the job without prior experience also I do not have much know-how of market. However, I come from family business background; therefore, my father would be quite a help for during my management studies. As for inexperience in project management field, I would try my best to attain satisfactory result in my courses, especially in the course of project management.

Diverse Culture

I have come all the way to the UK, in order to continue my education. Being a person from a different culture creates many challenges for me. Further, I'm young and do not have too many friends in the country. It will be a challenge for to settle in a new culture and be able to perform like others. I will take this as a challenge and try to make friends who can help me in learning the norms of this culture. My focus would be on my studies, and I will try to mix up with other in order to get comfortable as soon as possible.
