Pharmacists Should Not Refuse To Fill Emergency Contraceptive Because Of Their Religious Beliefs

ABSTRACT

This paper discusses the use of contraceptives and that the pharmacists should not refuse to fill emergency contraceptive because of their religious beliefs. They should not include their own personal beliefs in their professional life. They should inform the patient of the proper use of the contraceptives and of the negative impact (if it has any); however, should not refuse. There are religions that do not allow the use of contraceptives; however, they should not let their religious beliefs influence the decisions that they have to take in their professional life. This will help them in performing their professional duties with honesty and will prove to be beneficial for them, as well.

Pharmacists Should Not Refuse To Fill Emergency Contraceptive Because Of Their Religious Beliefs

Introduction

The debate whether contraceptives should be used or not has not been resolved yet. This is an issue that does not have one answer as different people have different beliefs. This is the reason that the people are unable to decide as to what they are doing is acceptable or not. On one side there are religious people who say that the use of the contraceptives is not permissible according to their religion. On the other hand, there are people who are in favour of birth control techniques. When weighing arguments of both the sides, it can be concluded that the use of contraceptives should be allowed and even the pharmacists should not refuse to fill emergency contraceptive because of their religious beliefs.

Arguments in Favour

It is important that the pharmacists know that it is their job and their duty to sell the contraceptives to the people who demand them; however, it is also their duty to create awareness and inform the patients of the positive, as well as, the negative impacts of the usage of contraceptives. Contraceptive is not the main issue here, but safe sex. First sex is a life experience that requires a series of preconditions that few adolescents contemplate. Losing virginity should not be seen as a challenge, not as a feat, nor as a headlong rush to avoid ridicule (Books, 2011). It is essential to be reciprocated in love, and take the time to not have sexual intercourse under pressure or with feelings of guilt. It is said that use your head before going to bed with someone should be an obligation shared by the couple begins in sexual love, not to run unnecessary risks: early pregnancy, venereal disease transmission or big disappointments. Information about contraception is safer for everyone, but many prefer to ignore it thinking that the reverse or the rhythm method is not in any danger, but that's not true. Most teenage pregnancies could be prevented if they had used the proper means. The people need education, not only on birth control but also on treating the genders equally so that the birth rate can be controlled.
