Introduction

According to Webster, urbanization refers to "the process whereby people increasingly leaving the countryside to live in cities" (Webster, 2008). Historically, growth in economic activities for many megacities, and social problems due to migration of rural labor in search of a better life. This paper analyzes the effects of population density and noise analysis, noise reduction strategies, territoriality, privacy and personal space with its importance.

Discussion

The social costs of urbanization are mainly caused by the massive increase in population of cities in particular periods. Leading causes of these problems are urban population growth and the inability of governments to provide basic services like drinking water. The BBC television (2006) has announced that the UN estimates that some 180,000 people are added to urban areas on a daily basis (BBC, 2006). Good introduction to urbanization and poverty, increasing urbanization, especially in developing countries like China and India, has caused problems like pollution, pressure on resources and urban unemployment. According to the BBC website (2006), developing countries bear the bulk of this burden by themselves, are left struggling to cope with the influx of people into urban areas. The social costs include also the pollution and deterioration of quality of life. The city has limited resources such as land, housing and roads in the life of the community; hence the rapid growth of the population pays a higher cost of living in cities. Even if the economy is growing, the mass migration of rural people floods the urban labor market. Such an oversupply of labor and unskilled employment opportunities limited, as falling wages and unemployment in urban areas. Due to the massive increase in demand of jobs, migration of people from villages to work in subsistence informal jobs outside the formal labor market (UNEP, 2006).

The cost of living and limited incomes cause a fall in living standards of unskilled workers who migrate are forced to live in slums and survive on wages of value. That the vast areas of slums can be seen in big cities like Jakarta and Mumbai. According to Max Randor (2002), a renowned climatologist and science of global warming, the urban population in Africa lives in slums. Economic growth and rising living costs will be the inequality of incomes and lifestyles of skilled and unskilled. According to UNEP (2006), unemployment is a big problem in most cities in South Asia because of the formal economy is unable to absorb the influx of workers. In addition, rapid growth and prosperity of cities and the slow growth of rural economy causing wide disparities between rural and urban areas. This effect has become very important in China where the government's main concern is economic growth, but not the reduction of disparities between urban and rural.
