Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that may develop after experiencing or seeing a traumatic, brutal, or life-threatening happening (Breslau, Wilcox, Storr, Lucia and Anthony, 2004).

Introduction

Traumatic happenings may be natural or human initiated. Natural events may include earthquakes, hurricanes, or health illnesses; human-caused events may encompass military combat, progeny sexy or physical misuse, rape, torture, household battering, or physical assault. Some of these traumatic events may occur at one issue in time or may be ongoing, with recurring exposure to the trauma. PTSD often goes undiagnosed for a variety of reasons, especially if the traumatic events are not readily clear-cut or appeared in the past. If untreated, PTSD may lead to other social matters such as alcohol and pharmaceutical misuse, suicidahty, and aggression administered at loved ones or other ones, which in turn may sway an individual's family position, weaken job or school performance, and boost communal isolation.

PTSD is a debilitating status that can affect any person at any age and has significant consequences for well-being and functioning. occurrence rates of PTSD among children and adolescents variety from 3 to 14 percent in community samples. amidst young kids who have experienced exact stressors, although, the occurrence rates are much higher.
