Inductive Argument

Provide an example of an inductive argument from your everyday life, another course or the newspaper. Is the argument strong or weak? Is it fallacious? Is it cogent?

Introduction

Inductive Argument implies the phenomenon that individuals need to make way for the purpose and objective of proving a claim, keeping in view of the possibilities and assumptions of the past trends and occurrence in one, homogenous environment and surrounding. Inductive reasoning, induction or inductive logic tends to differ from deductive reasoning and deduction in terms of the fact that induction tend to yield some form of consensus, a unanimously agreed-upon statement, facet or resolution.

An example: Gender and Pay Gap

Paid work is evidently of equal importance to both men and women. However, less than an aggregate of one quarter of the responding participants agree that a man's responsibility is to earn money. Interestingly, only one quarter of the men agree with the statement. Women are more inclined to disagree than men, who are in turn more inclined to neither agree nor disagree. When considering the attitudes in different age groups we see in Table X that those 28 years of age and under and those 59 years of age and over are more inclined to agree than those of “middle” age. On the other hand, those of “middle” age are more inclined to disagree.

This being the case, is earning money a woman's responsibility? The evidence indicates that an aggregate of just 19 percent of the responding participants agree. A greater share of women than men are inclined to agree and disagree. However, a large share of men neither agrees nor disagrees. This suggests that women may have a greater degree of choice in this issue. Even so, the evidence indicates that the responsibility of earning money is largely seen as mutual (Blackburn & Jarman, 1993).

Analysis and Hypothesis Development

According to surveys undertaken, the indication is that although differences in the proportion of men and women with similar attitudes are present there is, a general overall balance in the attitudes expressed by these women and men; the majority share the opinion that the level of gender equality in Kiruna is reasonable; although men in general as well as respondents of a younger age, both women and ...
