An In-depth Study of Psychological Perspective

Introduction

There are various perspectives that come under the field of psychology. There are mainly five approaches considered in psychology; however, a psychologist may agree that one of the approaches is correct, and any of them is incorrect. Each perspective has its own importance in the relevance and may comprise of both weakness and strengths.

Biological Psychology

It is the study of understanding the connection of mind-body with the help of scientific research and clinical practices. However, every perspective may have weakness and as well as strength. So does biological Psychology. A weakness that may arise while using this approach is that treating a patient using this approach may overlook the environmental factors, feelings, and experiences. On the contrary, strength of biological approach is that the outcome is easy to measure quantitatively as it has accurate results and is commonly measured by machines. It is effective and has given proven results.

Behaviourist Psychology

It differ other approaches as it is taken place in a controlled environment, and study what are the behavioural responses of the subject. Strength for behaviourism is that it can set the specification and objective learning of the learner; therefore, learner gets to know what is expected of him. Whereas, the weakness is that, there is more learning than the permanent change in behaviour of a person.

Cognitive Psychology

It is an approach in which psychologist finds out cognition; try to know the mental act or process due to which the patient has acquired a particular behaviour. One of the strength that cognitive approach has is that we can now understand the style of thinking that is possible at different ages. However, negative thing attach to it is that it does not take into consideration the psychological aspects of the body.

Psychodynamics Psychology

It is the study of inner conflicts present in mind as it highlights that these conflicts may explain about the behaviour. It emphasizes on the structure of personality, role of the unconscious mind, and the influence that childhood experiences have on later life. Strength is that it acknowledges sex as a major influence on behaviour. Whereas, theories of childhood development are outrageously abstract, and have little or no experimental foundation as there is little evident that anal-retentive" personalities develop as a consequence of strict toilet-training.

Humanist Psychology

This perspective emphasizes the study of the person completely. Psychologist study the complete human behaviour as they believe it is connected with the inner feelings and self image. Fulfilling people through creating an idea what human being means as this approach is all about valuing personal ideals and self-satisfaction. However, the limitation attach with this approach is ignoring the unconscious mind.

Nature and Nurture Analysis

It is a debate that takes place with in the psychological perspectives. In deciding, which particular behaviour of the patient is hereditary, so it is the nature part, whereas, the environmental influences or the experiences of life who shape up the behaviour of the patient is the nurture ...
