Storytelling

The main structure of the movie can be divided into three different stories going on in the movie and are interrelated to one another. The first story revolves around the character of Vincent Vega who is the lead character and hit main in the movie. The second story revolved around Butch Coolidge who is a boxer in the movie and the thired story is that of Vincent's co partner, Jules Winnfield who is the lead character in the third story. Every story consist of series of events and incidents that are different yet related to one another through the character of Marcellus Wallace for whom Vincent Vega is working. There are around seven narratives sequential stories the first one is at the diner in which the couple decides to rob the bank. The second narrative sequence is when Vincent Vega and Marcellus's wife go in a car to collect a suit case and after that the screen becomes black. The third sequence is related to the over dosage of heroin by Mia Wallace by mistake and how Vincent saves her life. Next sequence revolves around a flashback of Butch's childhood who gets a visit from Captain Koons who gives him the golden watch of his dead father. Then he goes for his fight and the sequence ends with him killing Vincent. The fifth sequence revolves around the chase between Marcellus and Butch. Both of them are captured by a shop owner but Butch save his and Marcellus's life. The sixth sequence is about Bonnie where Vincent shoots Bonnie and take a shelter at Jimmy's house who helps him out. The film has a non linear structure as it is breaks all the rule of chronological order and conventional film making. The movie plot has been developed against the traditional and conventional construction. The film scenes do not advance in chronological order but rather abruptly jump from one scene to another with no relation in between whatsoever. Pulp fiction seems to deconstruct the character and complicated events in the movie through rearrangement of the timing and sequence of the scenes. The director has very successfully experimented with non linear structuring by arrangement of time and combining or deconstructing scenes to increase the dramatic effect and thematic aim of the movie. The process of non linear structuring through rearrangement of scenes and timing to give movie a dramatic touch has proven to be successful in many instances at it increases the interest and curiosity of the viewers and keeps them engaged in the movie without getting bored. The viewers is surprised at every moment and is force to watch such movies with great interest.
