If you were Doug Friesen, manager of assembly at the company's Georgetown, Kentucky, plant, what would you do to address the seat problem? Where would you focus your attention and solution efforts?

If I were responsible for resolving the seat issue I would have made sure that the Quality Control department is held accountable for the issue that the company had been facing. It is important for the company to address their problems in a manner that can be solved by the department that is directly linked with it. The quality department is responsible for ensuring that the cars that are being manufactured are in the best shape and are ready to be sold; however, facing such problems would mean loss in terms of money, as well as, time. It is important for the company to make sure that the cars that are being manufactured are done in the best manner.

What options exist? What would you recommend? Why?

There are many options that exist to resolve this issue. Due to the defective seats' issue, it is important for the company to ensure that the problem is solved in the best possible manner and in a way which helps the customers in developing their trust back in the company (Anonymous, 1995). The company is also responsible for making sure that the customers do not lose their confidence in the company and that the products that are manufactured are done on a manner that are in accordance with the Toyota Production System and that it does not deviate from it. I would recommend the company to improve the quality of the products that it is producing.
