Abstract

This paper attempts to arrange current theoretical perspectives and experiential research on entertainment. Based on idea that entertainment is the multidimensional construct that mainly describes pleasant experiences of users while spending time with media or how reality TV has influenced audience in present scenario, less agreeable aspects of this kind of media usage are also taken into consideration. The scheme to reconstruct reality TV entertainment as the form of play is made. This view present entertainment as the form of coping with reality and thereby encompasses different functions, such as compensations, indulgence, and self-realization.

Chapter 1: Introduction

For the past ten years, reality television has been on the increase with networks across the spectrum increasing their reality show programming. Reality TV mentions to a genre of TV programs that depicts “real persons in reside situations”. Networks such as MTV and Bravo have dedicated an swamping share of their TV lineups to reality shows. For demonstration, in 2008, MTV commenced 16 new reality -based shows. While reality shows have become more and more well liked, such shows have furthermore been exposed to strong criticism, being accused for everything from an boost in artificial surgeries to a perpetuation of stereotypes to an boost in matter abuse. Background of the study

In 2006, in Laguna Beach residents expressed concerns that the highly successful MTV reality show sponsored "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" was responsible for tarnishing the image of the city of culture and beauty. (Bryant p.153) The show followed the lives of a group of wealthy teens in Laguna Beach, California, and described all aspects of their social environment, including personal conflicts, party and shopping. (Bryant p.114)

In 2006, at a forum with Laguna Beach Unified School Board candidates, the parents had alleged that police officials told them that the number of sex offenders in the city had risen since the show began. Citing a 2006 Department of Education Healthy Kids Survey, which means that Laguna Beach 11th graders showed the highest incidence of drug and alcohol abuse, was concerned that parents out the show in more drug and alcohol abuse and make that the show would be more vulnerable students in schools for shootings.
