Renewable Energy

Introduction

Energy resources are very diminishing day by day and countries are aware of this fact. They are exploring alternative ways to make the efficient use of Energy resources. A renewable resource is a natural resource that can be restored by natural processes at a rate similar to or greater than the consumption by humans. It provides good alternatives to the countries to make the optimal use of their resources. These resources include Wind Power Energy, Solar Energy Biofuel etc. We will focus on Wind and Solar Power Energy in this paper.

Nature of Problem

In the UK, energy mix dominated by generation from conventional fuels and nuclear, representing the period between 94 and 98% of the total. In power generation growth occurs in the period 1990-2008, of 300 thousand to 360 thousand GWh per year which represents an overall increase of nearly 20% in the period, coinciding with a growth cycle of the economy. The main rally takes place in the period 1995-2004. According to the source of generation, they appreciate different behaviors (Pepper, 2008, pp.23-24). Percentage wise, the generation in the first year of study is as follows:

With 597 MW already connected to the grid, offshore wind power in operation in the UK and more than 423 MW of Denmark, a pioneer and world leader so far in this segment. The milestone was reached after the conclusion of Park Lynn and Inner Dowsing, off the east coast of England. With its 250 MW, is the largest marine park in the world, according to its developer, the British company Centrica?

Minister of State and Head of Department of Energy in the UK, Mike O'Brien, said the Briton leadership will continue, as at present, there are five marine parks under construction, with a capacity of 938 MW whole. "The advance in Denmark is just the beginning", claimed a few days before the conference of the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA). "We are currently considering plans to increase capacity to 25 GW in the future power enough to all the houses in the country.”

In that sense, it can be a key R & D initiative coordinated by the Foundation of CO2, or Carbon Trust, which is being driven by five major companies in the marine sector. With a budget of thirty million pounds, or nearly forty Euros, according to the average exchange rate so far this year, "this initiative aims to reduce the costs of offshore wind by 10% (Quaschning, 2005, pp. 25-30). According to the director of the Carbon Trust, Tom Delay, "the UK market could represent half the global market for offshore wind by 2020."

Another symptom of the pull of the sector is the acquisition, by Masdar, a Saudi company renewable energy, 40% of London Array project of 1,000 MW. The shares have been purchased from Germany's electric firm, on, which it gets 10 percent profits. The rest belongs to the Danish utility Dong Energy. According to the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, is "an excellent example of the ...
