Regulation of “home schooling”

Abstract

This study examined the impact of state regulation upon the home schooling movement through various descriptive categories. The research question used was: what is the relationship between state home schooling regulation, as measured by the categories regulated and non-regulated, and the following five descriptive categories: (1) scores on ACT exams, (2) percentage of home scholars of the school-aged population, (3) ratio of public school students to teachers, (4) growth rate of home schooling as reported by state departments of education, and (5) growth rate of home schooling as reported by the HSLDA? The researcher contacted the American College Testing (ACT) Board for information regarding ACT standardized scores. Special emphasis was given to the 1999-2000 school year in examination as it offered the most complete data regarding enrollments. Data were separated into two categories, regulated and non-regulated, depending on the individual state's requirements for families choosing to home school. (Hail, Darol Wayne, 2003)

The effect of “site-based management” on accountability

Abstract

Increasingly, new regulations are governing organizations and their information systems. Individuals responsible for ensuring legal compliance and accountability currently lack sufficient guidance and support to manage their legal obligations within relevant information systems. While software controls provide assurances that business processes adhere to specific requirements, such as those derived from government regulations, there is little support to manage these requirements and their relationships to various policies and regulations. Legal Issues Of Ability Grouping

Abstract

Research in legal reasoning models investigates formal and computational theories of how legal experts analyze problems, create arguments, and make decisions. Rule-based legal expert systems using logical inference techniques have been developed and used successfully in a number of legal domains, especially those dominated by complex regulations such as taxation and social benefits administration. Models of legal argumentation fall into three broad categories: case-based, logic-based, and legal discourse models. Promising new directions for research in legal reasoning include formal legal ontologies and the use of legal models in electronic commerce. (Hafner, C. D. 2001)

Political Aspects of Phonics

Abstract

Much heat has been generated about phonics without shedding much light, I said in my own book, Phonics Phacts (1994). The Linguistics, Neurology and Politics of Phonics sheds much light on phonics as it treats the subject from three perspectives: linguistics, neurology and politics. (Strauss, S.L. 2005)
