Definition

Resilience can be defined as being able to recover from difficulties after functioning and moving forward after change. It is also referred as bouncing back from difficulties. People who are considered as resilient can cope up stress and are able to face challenging situations in life. They are experience learners and mangers of dealing with effective situations. The stress and challenges can better be held in the future. Dealing with challenges helps in growing stronger and we are ready to accept them in the future. Rather than bouncing back from challenges we are preparing to face them in the future situations (Horning, 2002). Children who are resilient are empathetic and they sympathize, and understand the feeling of others. They are problem solvers and comprise of outstanding communication skills. They are learners and motivated to achieve goals. They carry a strong hope for the future. They live in well functioned communities and have a solid relationship with adults.

Mental health

Being resilient is associated with having a good mental health. It deals with creating a balance between different aspects of life which includes intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional and physical. It can be explained as living a life in a way that we can enjoy and face the challenges which are hurdle in our lives. Our mental health revolves around the time we spend how we think about various things and care about people. It also deals with the ability of making decisions and choices. It deals with acting realistically to the world around us (Werner, 1982).

Mental health is the ability of each person to feel, think and act so as to better enjoy life, to better face the challenges, then we can say that the health promotion. Mental refers to the process of increasing the capacity of individuals and communities to empower themselves and improve their mental health. Practitioners offer various definitions of the concept of promoting mental health, but our unit focuses on the following approach. It aims to increase self-esteem, resilience, social support and well-being of all individuals and communities. The promotion of mental health is an approach that empowers individuals and communities to have an interaction with their environment that will make them stronger in the emotional and spiritual. It is an approach that focuses on individual resilience and the social environments and designed to combat discrimination against people with mental health problems. Promoting mental health for all must be achieved by respecting the culture, equity, social justice, interconnections and personal dignity (Hjemdal, 2007).

It deals with promoting mental health as the name suggests. This deals with promoting resilience and encourages its development. Promotion of resilience helps in improving our mental health.
