Rifkin has been successful to build an argument that animals should be treated more humanely. By smartly understanding the language he uses to explain these animals at the beginning of his writing. Rifkin has successfully build the argument that humans should treat animals more caringly as they are also living beings and they feel pain too, his writing and the language he uses gives the reader an idea of what he thinks about animals and how animals are treated by humans. Throughout almost the majority of the article Rifkin's language equates animals with human beings. At the end of his article, he uses very negative metaphors explaining how inhumanly animals are treated. For instance in the beginning of the article he explains that pigs require affection and can get easily depressed, elephants stand next to their dead kin for days and that gorillas can speak sign language. By explaining this he tells the reader that how in these and many other ways animals are like humans that animals also want attention, they have the ability to speak, and they feel sorrow and happiness. Once the reader is trough with this part and is able to see animals as equals to humans, Rifkin suddenly changes his tone and speaks about these magnificent creatures. At the end he when asking about how humans should treat these animals, Rifkin fills his description with very negative metaphors and language to stir the readers emotions. He talks about how animals are raised under inhumane conditions and how thousands of animals are subjected to laboratory testing every year. He also says that animals are for slaughter and human consumption.
