Role Model Review

The individual I have choosen as a role model for modern society is Nelson Mandela. He was born at Qunu, near Umtata on 18 July 1918. His father, was chief councillor to Thembuland's acting chief David Dalindyebo. When his father died, Mandela and was groomed for becoming chief of his local tribe. However Mandela would never be able to make this commitment.

Comparison to Christianity

Naturalism

Life itself is purposeless, labor is purposeless

Deep human desires for truth, justice, romance, and God are really distorted physical drives for

The human being is seen as a biological machine. Human beings have no value, purpose.

No purpose to suffering

They do not see friends as important.

They are against Christianity. Naturalism oppose most religions since most religions require belief in the supernatural.

Secular Humanism

There is no restriction on the individual for whatever career path he/she choose.

Since man is only evolved animal, sexual gratification is not to be denied as long as it does not hurt anyone.

They prefer to think of family as integer groups of perhaps unrelated people. Many deny the importance of fathers, encouraging “single” parenting by choice.

They believe suffering is caused by ignorance and wrong belief. They believe people can improve their lives through education and science.

Secular friends have the same belief.

They do not look to God to solve problems or give guidance. They rely on science to improve the world. Christianity is the faith of those who follow Jesus. Christianity rely on the holy spirit to guide them to the truth.

Atheistic Existentialism

There is no particular view of money.

It depends from person to person.

Family is important. Atheistic refer helping others with closely related genetic code over those that are not related.

They feel suffering can be random. Some contribute to the onset of their own suffering.

Eastern Pantheism

Pantheists view money and career as good things.

Human beings are both different from God and similar to God. This difference and similarity come together in a human person.

Suffering is an illusion Death ends the personal illusion but not the unity with Brahman.

The belief that God is a creator who truly stands apart from creation as opposed to God being the creation itself.

New Age

Much to the disappointment of his family, Mandela became involved in politics, and along with his good friend and comrade Oliver Tambo was expelled from Fort Hare for organising a student strike. However Mandela was able to finish his degree and qualified as a Lawyer. In 1952 Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa. The Transvaal Law Society tried to have it closed down, although this was blocked by the South African Supreme Court. (Bhana, 2005)

In 1944 Mandela helped found the ANC Youth League, whose Programme of Action was adopted by the ANC in 1949. Mandela was instrumental in pushing the ANC into more direct action such as the 1952 Defiance Campaign and later acts of sabotage.

In 1960 the Sharpeville massacre of 63 black South African's ...
