Introduction

A lot of advancement has been made in the field of nursing in almost all the countries of the world. In Ohio, especially in Dayton much improvement can be seen in regarding privileges, reputation and prestige. A very significant step was taken by the nurses of Ohio in the 1980's. This was done in order to revise and renew the Nurse Practice Act. Still even after this, a number of matters and issues were not resolved for Ohio's Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs). During mid1990's, those nurses who had acquired an associate's degree and were also capable of administering Ohio. In this paper, the background and history of APNs in Ohio is discussed and reviewed. The existing standard of care, the capacity and scope of specialized expert services of nursing and the format for the certification of APN and the practices followed in Ohio are also discussed.

Historical overview

Once the Nurse Practice Ac of Ohio was restructured and updated, the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses (OAAPN) which was formerly known as the Ohio Coalition of Nurses with Specialty Certification (OCNSC), was established in 1990 in order to follow and pursue the recognition of title and also to categorize and identify the possibility of practice for all the specialties of APN (www.oaapn.org). Their attempts and efforts gave way to the passage of SB 154 in 1996 and also to the passage of HB-241 in 1999 (www. codes.ohio.gov). This granted the qualified and expert APNs to have restricted and limited regulatory authority. As a result of these laws, Ohio was finally brought closer to APN customs and practices marked in some other states. Currently, the main focus of OAAPN is to secure compulsory and obligatory reimbursements for Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses, 2012 (www.oaapn.org).
