Introduction

Human beings are social animals by nature, and thus interacting with each other and the environment is a part of the daily life of all the individuals. While interacting with each other, some of the individuals are more open as compared to others, while the remaining are reserved and do not feel at home with everyone, especially the strangers. No matter what nature one has, it should be noted that every individual requires a safe and secure space, at work place, educational institution as well as home. Safe space mainly refers to a secure area where one feels out of range of the harmful agents and can practice his will freely (Bergmann, 2012, Pp: 15). It also implies that the individuals is free to work on his conditions and is not under any external pressure, thus making his own decisions and working according to his own convenience.

Summary of the Video Excerpt

The scene from the movie Underbelly, which is based on the events related to Melbourne gangland war, which stated in 1995 and continued till 2004. The TV series reveals around real life incidents and deals with a number of events where the characters either strive to create their own safe space or create the circumstances which infringe upon the safe space of others. The scene under discussion is related to murder scene over a small debit, and Alphonse Gangitano kills another person due to a minor matter, and then with the help of his accomplice, injures 13 other people as well. The scene is filled with violence and depicts the extreme arrogance on part of the actors, who consider themselves all powerful and do not even refrain from taking life of people who refuse to accept their orders as it is. This scene also highlights the fact that individuals who are involved in one negative activity are likely to be indulged in others as well.

Summary of Literature

Space safety includes a number of different clauses, including the freedom to express one's views, to move freely or to practice any faith or religion. The freedom to have any type of sexual orientation, especially the conflicted and not socially accepted orientations are included in this category and the safe space implies that they must be allowed to act according to their desires, without any external influence (Kuribayashi and Tharo, 1997, Pp: 132). In addition, the provision of safe spaces is also ethical and moral responsibility of every individual while they all reserve the right to have the same for themselves as well, thus being liberal from all the external forces.

Most of the cultures too require a safe space to be practiced and any external force or infringement in implementation of the values might damage the culture, and some in extreme cases, might even cause them to become extinct (Lemish, 2009, Pp: 9).
