School Uniform

Introduction

Dress code in schools has always been a problem because students somehow find it hard to follow the rules on what they can or cannot wear to school. While clothing is a relatively minor issue when it comes to education, wearing uniforms does seem to improve an educational environment. Therefore, I firmly believe that uniforms should be enforced upon students from elementary to high school. I support the idea that school uniforms are the way to go.

There are several reasons for that. The uniform dress code has helped make private, public and parochial schools more prestigious for their organization. Taking on the role of school uniforms brings about a new respect for the students and the school they are attending (www.nea.org). The pressure to wear the most popular brands can become extreme when students ridicule others for wearing inexpensive clothing. Uniforms will eliminate this ridicule, improve discipline and put all the students on equal footing. With all students wearing similar clothing, students will realize they are not at school to show off their clothes, but to get an education. They can take pride in their school, not in their clothing (Donohue, pp. 1-118).
