There are a number of responsibilities and handling them is an immense challenge. However, building or developing a superstructure of sea ports, as well as handling the cargo incorporates certain strengths and weakness which can either become a Competitive advantage for the company or even a threat (Haezendonck, 2001, pp: 12).

Since there is a limited budget approved by the government, one of the main weakness that arises is a lack of innovation. This is also due to the lack of competition that the ports lack innovation.

One fundamental weakness is that there is no access to the funds of the public. In some of the cases, there is limited access towards public funds meant for the basic infrastructure (Sardent, 1938, pp: 19).
