Introduction

Sears Canada Inc. is a world best company that beats its competitors in terms of efficient delivery and after sales service. Sears uses a transformational model to manage its sales and after sales service. The various steps in the transformational process work simultaneously (Blumenthal, 2004). The order starts with the sales agent making the sale, the details of which go to accounts and finance, warehouse, quality control (QC), Regional office and IT. The inputs in the transformational process include work process (sales), order taking database, warehouse and supply chain network, delivery and shipping. The outputs in the transformational process include actual sales or return, order processed or reverse supply chain, item availability on time or not and Finance and QC follow ups.

Although, the model is meant to support the business goals of being the best when it comes to delivery, there are certain areas where it is possible to make an error resulting in faulty output. These are as below.

Work process - sales

The level of inventory and the sale statistics mismatch may act as a potential warning sign. A potential error in the work process of sales is that, the front line sales department may make a sale of an item that is not present in the inventory with the company or that cannot be ordered quickly. The error might occur due to an untrained sales agent who makes a mistake. The sales agent has to make a sale only after making sure that it is absolutely in line with the inventory maintained by the company. The entire process starts with the sales agent making a sale to a customer. Any mistake on the part of the sales agent can disturb the entire transformational process and create unacceptable bottlenecks.
